I'm starting tennis lessons for the first time and i was wondering if you can use any type of tennis racket for tennis. My mom has these tennis rackets that are old but still in good condition, and it just doesn't seem to fit me. Is there an arm limit for the tennis rackets or something? Please explain the points on a getting a new tennis racket and what to get and how to measure.

There really aren't any measurements you should go by. Just choose what feels good. Tip: You might want to start out with a light racket that has a bigger head size. Once you improve you can try a heavier racket with a smaller head size.

I don't think you should hit with any old tennis racket. This would not be good for your game and your coach will most likely tell you to go out and by a more modern tennis racket. This is ok, because beginner tennis rackets at Wal-Mart can be actually pretty cheap (under 20 dollars). If you are older than ten years old I would suggest an actual sized tennis racket. And that is it, no measuring or anything like that.

There is no best racket exactly, however I believe the best racket company is Yonex. I used to be an avid user of Wilson, but soon I realized how bad their quality is, especially when I need to buy two or more of the same racket for tennis tournaments and school matches. Yonex has the best quality along with Fischer, ensuring that your rackets are well-made and have precise specifications. The other companies range from bad to okay qualities, but I suggest you go Yonex, because Fischer does not have too much variation out of their racket selection. Just remember not to base your racket selection just because a pro uses a certain racket. It is a common case that a pro customizes his or her racket then gets a paintjob applied to it, making it look like one of the rackets on the market. There is a difference between marketing and fine rackets.

You can technically use any tennis racket, but if you're going to be serious about it, you should invest in a good one. I picked up just one 100$ one with a nice weight in the head to it, and it's served me well thus far, but I really need to replace the grip.

I wouldn't use just any old racquet if I were you. You could probably go to Walmart, Target, or Even ***** and get a good Cheap racquet that would be good for a beginner.

well... there's alot more to picking a racquet than just telling it's old or new. But if you're like barely playing tennis, i wouldn't worry about it too much.
