Running shoes were made for running forward. They are made to be light. Tennis shoes were made for running side to side as well as running forward. They are made for optimal support and stability on the ankles, which running shoes do not have. Plus tennis shoes are more durable. You should buy tennis shoes that are comfortable, maneuverable, and stable. If you could find shoes that are light and durable, it's a plus.

P.S.If you want all these, you should try yonex shoes.

Tennis Shoes Vs Running Shoes

Running shoes will tear up and rip SO much easier than tennis shoes. For quick movement, tennis shoes are made durable and a thick bottom. Running shoes can't take the movements well enough, and they will tend to break very easily. Tennis requires very quick recovering (side to side and back and forth), and regular shoes will not do a good job of keeping the shoe in tact.

Running shoes have a higher lift, because of the added cushioning and the angle needed to keep a body forward position. The soles of running shoes have a more "teethy" sole for traction for many different terrains! Runners do not shuffle side to side like tennis players so a running shoe will not offer the same lateral support as a true tennis shoe. The "teethy" sole of a running shoe is potentially dangerous in that it can "catch" the surface during those low to the ground shuffle movements. And because of the higher lift, turning an ankle in a running shoe can be very serious and very painful. Also if you are taking lessons on clay courts, often called soft courts, running shoes will tear the surface up, thus making the courts themselves dangerous to play on! As a tennis coach who teaches on clay courts I strongly recommend finding a local or not local tennis shop to advise you on the style and fit that will best suit your level and the surface you are playing on! Good Luck!

Tennis shoes are meant to have lateral support since in tennis there is alot of side to side movement. The bottom also needs a more durable rubber outsole than a standard runnig shoe. look for shoes specifically made for tennis that are supportive and have a good outsole.

tennis shoes are made for lateral movement. they have more support from side to side, it'll reduce injuries if you're playing some serious tennis. running is just going forward, so the design for both shoes are totally different

running shoes the bottom is flat

but tennis shoes its like a U shaped bottom because u go side ways in tennis thats why its more comfortable

so if you are looking for tennis shoes look for shoes with U shaped bottom

Btw when i say U shaped i dont mean extreme U just a little

you can get decent tenis shoes for like 50 dollars. they have a lot of grip and are shaped in circular patterns because you do a lot of semi-skidding on the surface
