Plexicushion is a classified as a type of hardcourt (manufactured by the American company Plexipave) but it is different than Deco Turf (which is what the US Open is played on) in the sense that it is slower and the ball bounces higher.
Plexicushion has a rubberized layer above the acyllic surface and actually plays very similar to Rebound Ace (the old surface used at the Australian Open). Rebound Ace was entirely rubber over an asphalt base and that surface retained more heat and got very sticky, meaning it wasn't as safe for the players.
Although Plexicushion was supposed to be slightly faster than the old Rebound Ace, players have complained that it is actually a bit slower. The ball still bounces higher than a normal hardcourt though and it is considered to be a medium speed hardcourt.

plexicushion is a new type of blue surface introduced at the aussie open 05 for australia, america uses it too.
it is supposed to be a faster surface then the orignal hardcourt at the open last year but already the players are complainig that it is slower. i think it just needs to be a bit more used,to be worn out. then i rekon it will start bouncing faster then a hard court after more matches are played.after the first round of the open, they'll be good.

Plexicushion is a rubberized hardcourt surface. While Plexicushion is supposed to play faster than the previous rubberized hardcourt surface (Rebound Ace) used at the Australian Open, it is considered to be a medium-speed surface. It is technically considered a hardcourt, but it is slower than the asphalt-based hardcourts (DecoTurf 2) used at the U.S. Open. The rubberized surface is said to take spin better than an asphalt-based surface.

A "normal" tennis court is what most people refer to as a hard court, it is laid on top of an asphalt base and is the most popular court for high schools, and most clubs. The biggest complaint about hard courts is that they can be quite hard on the legs. A synthetic grass court is not unlike a natural grass court in appearance, they are very durable, and easier on the legs because of the sand infill which has more give than a regular hard court. It is very low maintenance and the surface drains quickly after rain, but it can be very expensive compared to other surfaces. Hope this helps!

No Plexicushion is definitely not as fast as Hardcourts. It is supposed to be faster than Rebound Ace.
It is better than Rebound Ace as in it has more even bounce. It plays more evenly than Rebound Ace. It is easier on the feet than Rebound Ace. It does not retain as much heat as Rebound Ace.

no not at all, the court at the aussie open is say not any faster then the court that they use at the US OPEN... its refered to as a rebound Ace court, and players are complaining that it is slower.... it maybe be faster the surface used last year...
another factor that can make the court faster is the hotter days and the more heat can speed up the bounce on the court.. on the damper cooler days the court slows down.

no!
It is slower than the hard courts in America which means high bounces that will benefit players from Europe and South America instead of players who perform better on faster surfaces like Roddick, blake;Hewitt;Fish, querrey;Isner and so forth.
