Both Serena & Roger won 2 grand slams this year.....
So do u think they are the 2 players in WTA & ATP who deserve to end this year as no.1? If u agree then WHY & u differ then do tell ur choices & reason behind that.

A BIG "HI" TO ALL MY YA FRIENDS HERE :)

Hey OIN! It's lovely to have you back, I actually looked on your profile the other day thinking "She's been gone for a long time." We've all missed you dearly :P

And I completely agree with you. After last years "Jankovic fiasco" I believe the year end rankings totally sum up everything that happened in 2009, and are fair. Federer won 2 slams, and Serena did as well, plus her year end title. Number two's make sense as well, Aussie Open champ Nadal, and clay court co-dominatress Safina deserve it as well. Everything..worked out!

Yes I'm very happy with the rankings this year, the two players who are clearly the most solid players and not to mention have won two grandslams each have worked and rightfully earned their rankings.

For the men's, Federer is clearly the number 1 player because one again he went to all four grandslam finals again and he won 2 and completed a career grandslam and not to mention stands alone as the all-time Men's Singles Grandslam Winners category. If that's not a number 1 player then I don't know what is LOL.

For the women's, the rankings have been a little nuts this year but Serena has clearly been the most solid female player with two singles grandslams and not mention that she and her sister won 3 doubles slams this year and also winning the year end WTA championship. Safina just does not cut it for me because she has not yet won a grandslam. A true number 1 players wins slams and regular tour titles and Serena has done both and much more, so for me she's the real number 1.

OIN, where the heck have you been!!?? You and a few others have disappeared lately! Anyways, I think for this year the rankings accurately represent who the best players throughout this season were, although I'm not happy that Roger finished the year as #1, but he was still deserving of it. Serena was obviously the top player of the year on the women's tour, the whole Dinara thing was just a farse, although I still like Dinara and I hope that she can win a major sometime. Even though I think the rankings are accurate this year, I don't think they will be like this next year. I'm going to go on a limb here (and be bias at the same time) by saying that Novak is going to be #1 next year, although I'm not sure if he will finish the year as number 1. He has so many points to defend during the clay court season, and the end of the year, but at the grand slams and during the grass court and the North American hard court season (both hardcourt seasons) he doesn't have that many points to defend, meanwhile Roger obviously has at least finals points to defend at all of the grand slams. Serena might stay #1, but I think that Sharapova or Kuznetsova (I bet James loves this prediction) will emerge (or reemerge in Sharapova's case) to become a somewhat dominant figure at the slams and Serena might end it as #2 or #3 next year, although it could be close.

Yeah they both deserve their rankings.

Though Federer had worthy opponents, i.e. Nadal, Murray and Dokovic and he still prevailed but not same in women's tennis.

Dinara Safina was the pretender to the throne and Serena, with 2 grand slam titles, looked the real no.1 but had to struggle so much but thankfully prevailed as no.1, which is what counts but its a shame, the way these somewhat consistent players, without winning big, out run these grand slam, proven no.1 players, for nearly whole of the year & poking fun at others.

I agree with the rankings for the mens, Roger deserves to dominate to be honest. However next year is probably Del Potro's year. I saw a lot of improvement throughout his year and I think he may surpass Andy Murray or even Nadal to be honest.

As for the Womens, all the rankings are mixed up and there is no clear dominator, however I will agree Serena deserves her place at the top for now. Maybe if Safina would win a grand slam i might dissagree.

I'm very glad Roger ends the year as no.1 He deserves it and has worked really hard getting to the finals of all 4 GS. He also played well in the smaller tournaments too. He's had a dream year and he really deserves it.

Serena i'm not so sure about. She's done well but maybe it would be better if she had played more of the smaller tournaments. And her outburst at the US Open meant i lost respect for her. But she is a good player and therefore, maybe she deserves it. I don't really know.

Roger Federer deserves the #1 ranking because he has demonstrated his superior tennis skills throughout the year and has worked hard to attain this position (also because I am a huge fan of Federer...but that's besides the point). However, I do not think that Serena Williams deserves the #1 ranking due to her poor sportsmanship (mainly referring to the recent incident during the U.S. Open).

You have come up with a great question and it's not really a matter of deserving it, it's more like earning it. It's funny how it came down to the last championships of the year to determine who is going to be the number one for this year, be it Roger, Serena or Bryan Brothers.

Serena Williams- She won the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and Year End Championships and would have won the USO except that she ran into a hot Kim Clijsters who trained like crazy to win the USO. Serena also did fairly good at smaller events like reaching the semifinals but what matters is how you do at the grandslams because they were 2000 points each. However, Serena will have to do much better at the smaller events next year if she wants to keep the number one ranking because Justin Henin is coming back, Kim Clijsters wants more slams, Wozniacki and Radwanska sisters are on the rise.

Roger Federer- He did good by winning the French Open and Wimbledon and he gained a lot of points at those two events which were enough to bolster him to the number one position. Also, his win at Cincinnati masters led him to the top because he had lost there in the first round last year and the masters events are 1000 points each this year so it was an advantage for him. However, next year is going to be different and he has to work hard to keep the number one position. Rafa would like to regain the lost ground, Djoko would want to leap ahead, Andy Murray would like to win a slam which means a lot of points and Del Potro looks like an emerging force, not to mention the dangerous Soderling and Cilic.

This year has been full of surprises but Roger and Serena have managed to hold their own and Congrats! to them for being the number player for the year 2009.

S...very much happy..

Both Roger(The Legend)&Serena deserved World No.1 in their respective departments...

Roger has had 2 grand slams&deserves World No.1..

Meanwhile,Serena at last has achieved her World No.1 ranking from Dinara Safina(who has not won even a single Grand Slam)

yes! i picked roger to win #1 since february of this year. I knew he was sick of being #2 behind nadal. I hope he can continue to be #1 for the next few years. And for serena...I just wish venus could be #1 again, she's way classier than serena

yes, I am quite happy with the rankings because Federer has the capability and the talent to regain the position and has proven that he is the best player in the game.

Serena has always proven the stuff she has and still she is going on.

The consistency of both the players force anybody to admire them.

i think they both deserve to end as no.1 in the rankings.

- federer made all 4 GS finals and won 2 of them. (possibly nadal could have had no.1, to be out as long as he was and automaticlly lose 2000 pts for not playing wimbledon, but still finish easily no. 2 is amazing so i feel a bit bad for him. but fitness and injuries are part of the game so....)

- serena also won 2 GS and she won the womens WTF. i cant see any reason why safina or any other female should be no. 1. serena doesnt travel to all the "lesser" tournaments but steps up at the majors and takes the big trophies home. when safina wins a GS she can have a real claim at the no. 1 spot.

I think that their ranks are fitting, seeing as they have played pretty well this year..

although they are not my absolute favorites but I think that they really deserve the number 1 ranks...

totally agree...federer totally deserves to dominate the rankings...he is the best tennis player EVER...

as for serena she hasnt dominated it much because the rankings kept on changing.....

but i guess out of all the women players she deserves it the most...she has played very well..
