Yes, his coach decided it would benefit him to learn to play left-handed and boy has it paid off! Just ask Roger Federer!! If Nadal had continued to play right-handed Federer would probably have won the Calender Slam in both 06 and 07!

Yes it is generally always mentioned at some point during a slam by a commentator that Nadal is actually a righty, and was forced to learn lefty. Although he his predominantly right handed, there are a few other skills he can perform left handed as well. It has been speculated on why he was taught to play lefty...

Yes I already knew this. Ever since Rafa's celebrity broke through and practically every match he plays on tv the commentators mention it. It really is quite a good strategy on Rafa's part because quite allot of players are right-handed and it gives him an advantage so it was very smart of his uncle to teach him how to play left-handed tennis.

Yep. Anybody who has watched a reasonable amount of matches on TV since Nadal really hit the spotlight would know this. It's one of those little tidbits that the announces just love to talk about during matches, no matter how many times they've said it before.

yes i had known this.... he was born right handed..... the commentors have mentioned this numerous times in the beganning of nadal hitting the spotlight..

also... his uncle made him hit play left handed so this creates alot of problems for other players so he is more tricky to play... and so his immense top spin game can even be more effective.. its what makes nadal very unique and different..

Yes I did, I heard he writes right handed. His uncle Tony asked him to go lefty, so he did. What a good choice!

Yes and it gets weirder. His mentor, and fellow Spanish player, Carlos Moya is naturally left handed but plays tennis with his right hand.

Yeah I did know that. I think it's interesting. He trained himself to play left-handed because he was better playing like that.
